Checking in from New Zealand

Hi Cousins; This is a fun idea for a web site with Grandma and Grandpa Crookston as our focus. I loved seeing the biography of the Harlines and all the great pictures. Thank you! I would love to hear memories of yours of Emeline and Byron. My last memory of Grandma Emeline was sweet for me. In 1975 after I graduated from High School I was going up to Bear Lake to stay for a couple of days with a girlfriend or two. We stopped in Logan to say hi to Grandma and Grandpa on the way up. They were both working in their wonderful garden. It was about noon and was so hot. She had been in the garden all morning long and was so hot and I thought exhausted. It was the first time I thought that she looked older. It was apparent to me that she was so happy we stopped by. She immediately wanted to get us something to drink and to fill our car with anything that we would take from her garden. I was so proud to share my dear grandma with my friend. I thought about how she really was older and working so hard but always loved her posterity so much. Her garden was to share with others, all the flowers, vegetables, berries etc. I have been grateful for her great example. I will check in another time with a memory of Grandpa Crookston. You can check out our blog to hear about us. http://www.momanddadlangford.blogspot.com Love and Cheers, Miriam Langford

Alleman Reunion

The Alleman reunion ask for an update on our family. Since I have not been to the reunion for many years I thought I had better tell how I am related and give a quick update on our lives. So here is what I sent to John and Nancy Tippets, reptippets@msn.com.

Emeline Alleman grew up milking cows at the Crow Creek ranch, in south east Idaho. Byron Crookston was a ranger on that part of the forest and he would stop in to visit and eat with them every week or so. Following milking, if Emeline saw his horse tied up in front, she would crawl in the back window and change before coming out to greet Byron. They married and had children named Lynn, Ray, George, Lola and Donna. The family lived in Logan, Utah.

Lola and Alden met while he was studying horticulture at the Utah Agriculture College in Logan. Alden was called on a mission to the Central States Mission and Lola wrote to him faithfully. They married when he returned but was drafted into the army to serve in World War II. He joined the Sanitary Corps and was assigned to a medical lab at a prisoner of war camp in Nebraska.

I was born in 1942 in Logan, Utah and am David, the oldest of eleven children as listed: Carole, Geneil, Louise, Louona, Myra, Carl, Lorena, Joe, Alice, Ralph. Alden became a Medical Doctor following the war and was in general practice in Ogden, Utah, where Lola and Alden resided. Alden died in 1965 and Lola died in 2004.

David and Mary Jean are school teachers. David is a library media teacher at Olympus Jr. and Mary Jean is a third grade teacher at Granger Elementary. We live in West Valley City and have five grown and married children and almost eight grand children.

Carole Buchannan lives in Roy, Utah and has raised foster children for many years. Her two boys and two girls are on their own now. Carole has Three grandchildren.

Geneil Davis was a drama teacher at a junior high but is deceased now due to cancer. Her two girls are married and live in Arizona and Adam lives in Ogden. She has five grandchildren.

Louise and Jim Spencer Live in Lawrenceville, Georgia, and they have three married boys. Louise has two grandchildren.

Louona and Allan Tanner live in Sandy, Utah and they have four married daughters and a married son. Louona has almost six grandchildren.

Myra Dalton lives in American Fork, Utah, and teaches art especially ceramics at Lone Peak High.

Carl lives in Salt Lake, installs kitchen cabinets, and enjoys river trips when ever he can.

Lorena and Mike Richie live in Mountain View, California and their daughter Gina and Matthew Desmarai and have two children.

Joe and Jo live in Ogden with their two recent high school graduates. Joe works in a wire distribution warehouse and Jo is a professional genealogist specializing in American Indian research.

Alice and Bob Davis live in Nairobi, Kenya where he is retired from working for the United Nations where he made arrangements to see that the children of north east Africa were immunized for measles, polio, etc. Their boy Matthew is about eleven years old.

Ralph lives in Brigham City and works at Thiokol mixing rocket fuel. He has three grown children.

Mar, Mir, My

I title this first photo: Mar, Mir, My. We were dancing on Piha Beach. Did you know that all four cousins who visited New Zealand have names that start with "M"? We should have had Martha and Mary with us...who else in the Crookston Clan has an "M" name?
I entered this second photo in our American Fork Steal Days Art Show this last week.
This ship sits in a bay somewhere in the North Island of New Zealand.
Mark, was it in Pihia or was in Whangarei(sp?)? I won a third place ribbon in colored photos.
The judges told me that if I wanted to take really great photos I would have to upgrade
my camera.

images of New Zealand

Here are some images of New Zealand. I have over 2,ooo photos. Mark, Camille, Marnita and I visited Miriam and Bob who are living in Auckland and working for the church. We had a great time in the South Island as well as the North. We hope to see all our Crookston cousins on this blog, so we can all share stories about our families and get to know our clan a bit better. I will post more photos of New Zealand if anyone is interested.
